Cyber Attack

Social media platform X faced a series of global outages on Monday, prompting CEO Elon Musk to claim that the platform was under a "massive cyberattack." Musk suggested that either a large, coordinated group or even a nation-state could be behind the attack.

Earlier in the day, X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced multiple disruptions, according to outage tracker Downdetector. Thousands of users, primarily in the U.S., reported being unable to access their accounts.

Outage reports initially peaked at around 26,579 before temporarily declining, only to surge to nearly 40,000 later in the day. In the U.K., more than 10,800 users also reported service disruptions. However, the exact cause of the outages remained unclear.

Many users took to other platforms to express frustration, reporting difficulties in loading pages or refreshing their feeds. Some questioned the stability of X, with posts like, "Twitter went down for an hour but seems to be okay now?" and "Everyone heading to X now that Twitter is down."

Despite the widespread outage, X services were restored shortly after the disruption.

According to Downdetector, 56% of reported issues were linked to the X mobile app, while 33% were associated with the website. This isn’t the first time the platform has faced such glitches. In March 2023, X experienced a major outage lasting over an hour, during which links failed to load and some users were unable to log in.
